What is Action for a Safe South Africa? |
|
Action for a Safe South Africa is an inclusive and constructive social movement that enables every South African to contribute to making our country safe through sustained actions that prevent crime. Founded on a model that focuses on the prevention of crime rather than the enforcement of the law, Action for a Safe South Africa is a mass-action, civil society movement that actively addresses the root causes of crime in our country with a view to collectively building the South Africa we all want to live in.
The objectives of the initiative are: - To unite and inspire all South Africans in a spirit of National Identity, using a compelling vision of a safe South Africa, no longer oppressed by crime and violence
- To create broad awareness in the country about the causes of violent crime and mobilising South Africans to work together to address these
- To run practical projects/initiatives, that tackle the causes of violent crime and aim to dramatically reduce crime across the country
- To provide scientific and evidence based visionary leadership and support to direct South Africans in their efforts to help make South Africa safe
- To forge knowledge networks with other sectors in South Africa and with other countries who face similar challenges
- To encourage research, science and technology based innovation dedicated to a safe South Africa
